MorganHr’s ElevateComp | Performance & Pay: The Great Debate

ElevateComp is MorganHR’s monthly facilitated conversations. These sessions bring HR, Compensation, and Total Rewards leaders together to share ideas, learn from one another, and discuss the challenges shaping today’s workplace.

We hope you’ll join us for our October discussion:

Performance & Pay: The Great Debate
Should performance and pay be linked?

We work with many different organizations, and this remains one of the longest-running debates in HR.

Should performance directly drive merit increases? What about bonus and incentive pay? Should performance be one factor among many? Or are there times when performance and pay shouldn’t be directly linked at all?

We see all of it.

And there are passionate views about what works, what doesn’t, and what ultimately moves the business forward.

For this ElevateComp, we’re doing something a little different. Rather than a presentation, this will be a facilitated roundtable discussion where we can have a frank conversation about the approaches organizations are using today—and learn from one another.

Together, we’ll explore:

✅ When performance should—and shouldn’t—directly influence pay

✅ How organizations are connecting performance to merit, bonus, and incentive decisions

✅ What changes when performance and pay are loosely connected—or intentionally separated

✅ Whether performance ratings are still useful in making pay decisions

✅ What’s working—and what isn’t—in creating meaningful pay and performance conversations

At the heart of the debate is a bigger question: How do we drive performance and business results while fostering better pay-and-performance conversations?

As always, this session is designed to be interactive—but this one depends on the conversation we create together. Come prepared to share what your organization is doing, what you’ve tried, what you’ve learned, and what you may be questioning.

There may not be one right answer, but there is a lot we can learn from each other.
